We are faux painting our home. We went with the raggin off technique, using plastic. I'm thinkin maybe we should have done ragging off using rags instead. Anyone worked with faux painting and know how I could change it over if I wanted too?
Can I just brush on more paint/glaze and rag it off with a paper towel ect. and still get the look ok? Thoughts? How to correct Faux painting?
Iam a faux painter been on Good Moroning America, The Today Show through Danny Liffird , through McDade if you have messed up faux do this take your base coat the paint before you started fauxing thats your base coat. Stay with the bag because now you have put depth in the wall you can tell this by running your hand across the wall, really baging easyer than raging so just make sure it egg shell paint mix 1qt clear glazing to 1 gallon paint than bag over you faux with the base coat to bring some clear places.*How to correct Faux painting?
Just do it again using rags. NOT paper towels as they don't absorb the paint and will just smear it. Good luck. :))
If it left high and low spots, you will have to lightly sand the surface if you want to repaint the wall in a solid color. If you want more depth of color, use 1/3 latex or acylic paint, 1/3 water, 1/3 Flotrol (available in the home improvement stores as a thinner for paint sprayers). WET a soft rag (like an old t-shirt) and wring out thoroughly, dip into paint, blot off excess and ball up the fabric leaving as many wrinkles as you can before applying to the wall. Step back from the wall and only add more color sporatically as needed (i.e. don't blot in a pattern, don't heavily cover one area and don't scrunch in the corners).
This should help even out the look. You might also try using a foam stamp with a motif you like. I ragged a wall with 3 colors and was unhappy with the mottled effect. So, I purchased a rather large 4'; stamp at the craft store with a fleur-de-lis image on it. I dipped it in gold acyrlic paint and sporatically impressed the image on the wall. Turned out awesome!
